#ResignRahm Protest, Chicago
December 9th, 2015

These photographs were taken during a city-wide walk out following the release of a dash-cam video showing the murder of (17 year old) Laquan McDonald by the hands of Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke thirteen months after it took place. Protesters demanded changes in police and judicial procedure, and the resignation of city and county officials, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez and Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy in belief of a deliberate cover-up.

Dec. 11th, 2015, The FADER

December 1, 2015 Mayor Rahm Emanuel fired Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, under political pressure from protesters.

Anita Alvarez refused to resign for having waited 13 months to prosecute police officer Jason Van Dyke, but on March 15, 2016, lost her re-election bid for Cook County States Attorney.

September 5th, 2018 Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced he would not seek re-election for his 3rd term.

October 5th, 2018 Jason Van Dyke was found guilty of second-degree murder and 16 counts of aggravated battery.

January 18th, 2019 Though sentenced to almost seven years in prison, Van Dyke will serve less than 3 1/2 years after Judge Vincent Gaughan found the second degree murder conviction to be more serious and "merged" the aggravated battery convictions into the same sentencing.
