Matthew Avignone is a Korean-American photographer, born in Busan, S. Korea, raised in Chicago, IL and currently living and working in Paris, France with his partner and child. He obtained his B.A. in photography from Columbia College, Chicago and his work has been exhibited at the Aperture Foundation (NYC), Pingyao Photography Festival (China), Camden Image Gallery (London) and the SangMyung University (Seoul). His first artist book, An Unfinished Body, 2011 (first draft of Stranger Than Family) is part of the collections at George Eastman House and the International Center for Photography. His work has been featured in The New York Times, T Magazine, The New Yorker, Bloomberg Businessweek, The Wire, and The Fader among others. In his free time he enjoys urban fishing along the Seine in Paris or playing pool at his local pub.
